Know your drains — care for the wound, manage the drainage, and know what's your role.

A realistic equipment trainer and care simulator for surgical wounds and drains: closed suction (active) and Penrose (passive) drains, the wound and the drain site. Identify them, empty and re-vacuum, assess the wound, and understand shortening and removal.

Scope: Drain insertion is a surgical / medical procedure and is not within enrolled-nurse scope (shown for understanding only). Shortening and removal are performed on a specific order and only within the clinician's competency, per policy. Care of the wound and drain — emptying, measuring, re-establishing the vacuum, monitoring, dressing within scope, recognising complications and escalating — is the EN focus, in consultation with the RN. For a suction drain, release the vacuum before removal.

Education-only tool. It does not replace supervised practice, facility policy, manufacturer instructions or professional judgement, and does not guarantee any outcome. Drain types, vacuum-recharge methods, shortening / removal protocols and dressings vary — always follow local policy and manufacturer instructions.
